ABOUT THE BAND

Formed in 2022, The Silver Doors is a psychedelic rock band based in Asheville, NC. Blending elements of psych, garage, blues, and more, they pay homage to the Appalachian mountains they call home and explore the boundaries of those genres with the incorporation of an effects-laden electric violin. Blending their collective influences, their sound gets catapulted into new territories by letting the violin shine among blues backbeats, punk basslines, and reverb-drenched guitar riffs.

 

History:

Bryce and Alex met in 2015 while attending UNCA and bonded over a love of heavy blues rock, joining the band The Mercury Arcs for a few years. Alex and Bryce cut their teeth touring locally and regionally with The Mercury Arcs, playing such venues as the 40 Watt in Athens, GA, the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC, and many more. After that project ended, Alex started working on his own material, blending his love of psych rock, desert rock, blues, and garage rock into one, recording home demos and trying out bass players and drummers. Brett is a longtime friend of Alex's, who has been in many local and regional bands himself (Tongues of Fire, Debbie and the Skanks, Ugly Runner, and most recently frontman and lead songwriter of garage rock band Powder Horns). They met when the Mercury Arcs and Brett's band Survival Crimes played an Asheville gig together in March of 2017. Alex started working with Brett around 2020-2021 with some basic song ideas and an original drummer, who shortly thereafter moved. Brett formed Powder Horns and Alex kept working on demos. Determined to work together, Alex reached back out to Brett and joined forces with Bryce on drums.

 

The most recent addition is Justin Lawrence on violin. It's hard to put into words how much Justin adds to the group (no, he didn't write this). Alex and Justin met while building synthesizers at Moog Music in Asheville. With an excellent ear trained by jamming with traditional bluegrass musicians in the Asheville area, combined with a love of effects pedals, improvisation, coffee, and creation for the love of creation, Justin is the unique voice, the bread and butter, of the Silver Doors sound. Capable of creating searing leads, ambient textures, rhythmic pulses, rich harmonies, and much more, Justin Lawrence is what sets the Silver Doors apart from your average rock band.

The Silver Doors are all these things. They are a violin from the mountains, they are thundering drums dripping in blues backbeats, they are angular, desert-inspired guitar riffs, they are melodic and catchy vocal melodies and bass lines.
